Mel's Wedding & The Snake

So I can't believe that I forgot my camera when I went to Mel's wedding! I'll have to get some pictures from her dad or sisters or something. I'm such a bad friend! Eeesh! So sorry, no pictures for now. And the pictures we took at the river were on a waterproof 1-time-use camera so this will just be a boring pictureless post. Sorry guys! I'll try to be concise.
My dear bosom friend Melanie Jean Hibbard got marriaged on July 18th. For those of you who don't know, Mel has been one of my best friends pretty much since the womb. We grew up next door to each other. We played Barbies, GI Joes, & Ninja Turtles, rode our Big Wheels, raced popcicle sticks down the gutter, ran through sprinklers, played on the Slip-N-Slide, had "sales", rode skateboards down the hill (on our bums of course), played in the snow, jumped on the tramp, danced, and played soccer together (I'll stop there because I could go on forever, we had quite the childhood). Our favorite show to watch that we still love to this day is Anne of Green Gables, hence where we got the term "bosom friend". It was so surreal to sit in the temple and see her smiling from ear to ear as she was married to her "Gil". My heart was so full of joy it brought tears to my eyes. I love that girl to pieces. That Scott is a lucky man. She really did find her perfect match.
After the wedding, we had to hurry out of there to make it up to the Annual Banbury River Trip at the Snake River. I was sad we couldn't stay for the luncheon but we had to compromise so we were able to do a little of both. So we hopped in the car and headed up north to Wyoming. We listened to Harry Potter: The Half Blood Prince on the way up A)to keep us entertained and make the ride go by faster and B)to remind us of what happened in this book to prepare us for the movie coming out in November. We finally made it up there at about 3:30pm, so we had enough time to unload and go for a run before it got too late. The river is so high this year! I couldn't believe it! And cold too! Big Kahuna was more like Baby Kahuna but Lunch Counter was insane!!! There was like 5 massive waves in a row. I love rafting the Snake. I'm happy to announce that Trey & I both stayed in the raft the whole time. We only made 2 runs through all the rapids and then made 1 run with Wren & Dylan (our niece & nephew) on the lazy river part of the Snake. Those kids had a blast. We had such a great time, hopefully next year we'll be able to be there the whole time instead of a day and half. And hopefully the AZ Banburys and Matt & Kristy will make it up next year too. We missed you guys!

Summa time when the livin's EZ...

We're going a little out of order here because Trey is workin on the 4th of July post so this is picking up the weekend after the 4th.
On Friday, Trey's boss invited us and our friends Clay & Jess to go boating with him. We were all over that. Trey had never tried wake boarding so he gave it a try...let's just say he probably won't be trying that again anytime soon. He didn't have such a fun time, I felt bad. It's hard your first time though. But it's like once you get it, you can pop right up almost every time. You just have to learn the feel of it. I was pretty stoked because I got up my first try and I haven't been wake boarding in 2 years! It just came right back to me. It was so fun, I actually was going in and out of the wake! That is a big accomplishment for me. In the past I've only been able to go in and out of the wake once and then I would turf it. So at least one of us was successful :)
The next day we woke up early and went with our friend Amber to the Salt Lake Farmer's Market. Her husband Jake works at the Crumb Brothers down there so we wanted to go see him in action, and check out the market. It was quite a bit bigger than the little Logan Farmer's Market. Everyone and their dog was there...I mean that literally. Everyone had their dogs with them. Apparently I missed the memo.
Here is one of our favorite little boys in the world...Jack. Amber had this awesome little baby carrier (the "Baby Bjorn") she strapped him in. I'm totally getting one of those when we have a wee little one.

Later that night, we went to the Logan Demo Derby with the Morbizzles. This was mine & Callie's very first Demo Derby experience...and quite the experience it was. It was surprisingly more fun than I thought. I didn't realize how much fun it would be to watch a bunch of cars crash into each other in a big pit of dirt. Here are a few pics...

Good times! I'm definitely a fan of the demo derb. There is an all truck vs. van derby in September that we will be attending. If anyone would like to join us, let us know. Seriously. We're totally going.

Meet our Suby!

I know you have all been wondering which car we got...well here she is...meet Suby! We haven't come up with a good name for her yet so I just call her Suby. Isn't she gorgeous!? (said in a Crocodile Hunter voice) She drives like a champ. We hope she'll last us a good 15 years, that would be awesome! She was born in 2007 and only had 13,600 miles on her when we bought her. Yeah, practically brand new!! Here is a good side view of her...

We took her up to the Snake River this past week and it was so nice to be able to fit all our camping stuff in our car with extra room to spare! We have welcomed her into the Banbury family with open arms.

So...anyone want to buy a '96 Pontiac Grand Am? :)

New car!!!

Boo-yah! We got a new cah! I'll write more later with pictures and details. Also, I need to catch up on the past 3 weekends, gosh I'm a slacker. So here is a little taste of what's to come...4th of July, my first fish, SLC farmers market, wakeboarding, demo derby, Mel's wedding, and Snake River trip. I promise I'll post all of this soon, hopefully by the end of the week before anything else happens! The summer is so eventful, I love it! Stay tuned...

Car shopping...

It's official, the Banbury's are currently looking to buy their first new (and when I say new, I mean slightly used) car! Our top cars of choice are...

A) The Mazda 3 Hatchback 2006 or 2007- in Black, Dark Gray, or Silver

And B) The Subaru Outback 2005, 2006, or 2007 - in Black, Dark Gray, or Green

We are planning for the future, since we will be going to med school and won't have much cash flow coming in. We thought now is the best time to get a car(since we're both working)that will last us through med school and residency. So of course we want one in top condition with low mileage. Oh and it needs to last us awhile without too many problems. We also are looking for a more roomy car where we could fit a few kiddies...and no I'm not pregnant for anyone wondering!..but I am planning on having a kid or two within the next 8 years. With those factors in mind, we've been leaning towards the Outback. But as far as looks go, I LOVE the Mazda 3 Hatchback. More sporty, but less practical in my opinion. It would be hard to fit car seats in there. But they are a little cheaper, but who knows how long it would last. We've heard lots of good things about Subarus.

On Sunday, we went for a little drive to check out what the local used car dealerships had, and we happened upon this little beauty...

She is a 2007 Subaru Outback 2.5I 5 Door Wagon. It was love at first sight! We tested the handle to the door and to our delight, she was open! We checked out the inside, it totally looked and smelled like a brand new car! We looked at the mileage, only 13,000! And we were surprised at how much we liked the silver! We got excited and planned to come back on Monday (yesterday) to test drive it.

We came back on Monday for FHE to gave her a spin. She rides great, especially compared to old Buela! For anyone who doesn't know, Buela is our current car, a '96 Pontiac Grand Am. She's been so great to us, but she's beginning to get arthritis and we don't know how much longer she will be with us. We figure we can trade her in to help with the down payment.

So anyway, this is totally new to both of us and a wee bit scary. We've never spent this kind of money on anything before! The dealership gave us an offer which is within our price range and they said the offer would be on the table for a few days. So we're thinking about it right now. We asked about the history of the car, just to make sure it was clean. Apparently the lady that traded it in only traded it in because she had to. She had another kid and couldn't fit everyone in the car anymore, so she traded the Subaru for a mini van. Hence why it's in such good condition and the mileage is so low.

So what do you think??? This is our first car purchase so any advice from you more experienced car buyers would be great!

Deep Dish City...

Time flies when you're having fun...
Trey started out this post so I thought I would finish it.

A few weeks ago we went on an awesome trip to Iowa/Nauvoo/Chicago. We started off the journey at 5pm on Tuesday, June 17th. We met up with Trey's best buddy from high school and his wife and drove all the way to Coralville, Iowa in one straight shot. I was happy we drove through the night because A)we didn't need to use the AC and B)Wyoming, Nebraska, and Iowa are BORING! (no offense Phil & Nicole). Nothin but farmland, rolling hills, and well...that's about it.

We rolled into our first destination (Coralville) at about 10am the next morning. Not bad time I'd say. We were all pretty tired so we took a nap for a few hours to recuperate. When we woke up, Nicole set up the crazy flower sprinkler and the girls had a fun time giggling and running around the sprinkler. It was so fun to see Mckell & Alissa, they crack me up!Natey boy wasn't too excited about the sprinklers. I think he got wet once and that was enough for him. Isn't he so stinkin cute?! I really wanted to just take him home with me. I love how he always sticks out his tongue. He took a little while to warm up to us because we were strangers to him. But after he decided we were okay, he would come up to me and put his arms up for me to hold him, it made me happy :).

We hung out the rest of the day and just played with the kiddies until Phil got off work. Then they took us to The Vine for dinner. Oh my goodness, that place is heaven sent! Anyone who goes out there definitely needs to eat at The Vine. The sliders (mini hamburgers) were my fav. But the wings and fries were fabulous also. After din din we went exploring around town to see the effects of the flood. It was unreal to see. We didn't have a camera but I took some pics on my cell phone. I'll post some later if I can. We got back that night and kept Phil up until 12pm just chatting about life in Iowa and med school stuff. I really miss Phil & Nicole and the kids. It was so good to see them all. Thanks again for letting us stay with you. Here are some more pictures of us and the kids... So the next day we said goodbye and headed off to destination #2, Nauvoo. We were a little nervous because of the flood situation and tons of roads were closed in Iowa but we found our way to Nauvoo. We had to drive through a flooded street to get to the border of Illinois, that made me a little nervous. Maybe I'll post the video we took of it later(they take forever to download).

Nauvoo was just as pretty as I remember it. The temple is amazing. We didn't have enough time to do a session so we just walked around outside and took pics. We went through some of the old buildings also. We saw how an old printing press worked and of course we had to visit the gunsmith house (for Trey). We saw one of the original sun stones from the temple and also Joseph, Hyrum, and Emma's graves.

Next we went to Carthage. That was really neat to watch a video on Joseph's life and then go through the jail and listen to the commentary of what happened that day. You could even see the original bullet holes in the door. It made me cry (surprise surprise). It was neat to feel the special spirit that was there. It was very peaceful. We were on hallowed ground. What an incredible prophet he was.After Carthage, we set off for desitination #3, Chicago! Well, actually our friends live in a small town outside of Chicago, called Montgomery. We arrived in Montgomery at 9pm and were greeted by our friends Jenny & Jeremy. It was so good to see them. Jeremy is also one of Trey's good friends from high school. Adam and his girlfriend were also already at the house (they flew). Trey and Joe got so excited that all the boys were reunited. They were so hyper and crazy, but I bet a lot of that was them just being stir crazy from being in the car for so long. That was when the wives just sat back and let them do their thing. Those boys have so many inside jokes it's not even funny. So all the girls just hung out and let them reminisce about the good old days.

The next day the Main's took us to downtown Chicago. And can I just mention that the traffic there is insane!! City drivers are nuts. Anyway, they took us to lunch at Ed Debevics. This place was awesome. It was a 50's diner but the host and waitresses were totally sarcastic and mean to ya. It was hilarious! And of course Trey sassed right back to them, it was pretty funny. We also saw this huge fountain, the metallic bean which was my personal favorite, and then we went to the Chicago art museum. Friday nights are free there. We saw some pretty cool stuff. It's the same museum they go to on Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

The next day we packed up the cars and headed up to Lake Paw Paw in Michigan. Jenny's parents have a lake house up there and they let us stay there for the weekend. It was soo much fun. They had 2 boats, a pontoon boat and a speed boat. They also had a jet ski. We had the best time. I don't recall laughing so hard and so much in one weekend as we did when we were there. We played games, watched movies, played horseshoes, ate lots of food, tubed, waterskiied, rode on the water weinie, and played in the water. Jenny & Jeremy have 2 dogs, a black lab and a golden retriever, and they just loved it up there. I was so happy that Trey could finally go boating! He had never been before. I'm pretty sure we got him hooked. He tried waterskiing and he got up on his 2nd try! He was a natural. I didn't get to waterski because I was sick the last 2 days we were there. I did ride the water weinie though, that was a good time.

On Monday afternoon, we headed back to Montgomery to unpack, and then repack our car and say goodbye to the Mains. Our car took one last trip to the city for our last hoorah before we left...a Cubs game. It was quite the experience. I had a Chicago dog, watched the ladies in front of us go back and forth from the beer stand and each time getting a little more giggly and loud, witnessed a guy proposing to a girl, and sang "Take Me Out To The Ball Game". We sat in the bleachers right under the scoreboard. I only wish Harry Carry was still around, I would have loved to hear him announcing. I'm really glad we went. The Cubs are Trey's and Joe's favorite baseball team so the boys were in heaven.

That night we traveled 4 hours back to Iowa and stayed at Phil and Nicole's. We woke up to a breakfast of Enchanted Eggs, Vanishing Yogurt, and Hocus Pocus Pancakes made especially for us by Mckell, with a little help from Nicole and Alissa I'm sure. She got a book from the library that had a bunch of recipes for things and while you add the ingredients and mix them you say a spell. Cute huh! Whatever she did worked because it was really tasty! Thanks Mckell!

That was pretty much the end of our vacation. The drive home was sooooo long. We just wanted to get home. This is us in the backseat during the tedious drive.

This was such a fun trip, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Sorry for the long post, there was just so much fun stuff to talk about and lots of fun pics. I hope I didn't bore you. :)
