Cake Decorating 101

I'm finally doing it! I've been wanting to take a cake decorating class for so long now, but I actually took the next step and signed up! And the classes are buy 1 get 1 free so I get to take Course 2 for free! Boo yah! We had our first class on Wednesday. I was totally surprised when I showed up and saw 2 girls from my ward! That will be fun.
I'm really excited to start decorating next week. This week we just learned the basics like what kind of cake recipe to use, how to mix the frosting to make different consistencies, torting, making the top of the cake perfectly flat, and frosting the cake so there are no lines! I always wondered how people did that.
I was so excited last night when I discovered that Joann's has a bunch of Wilton cake stuff! I found this handy little caddy that has all the little tools and stuff I need for the first 2 courses.

And this is the best part, my 40% off coupon worked! I was afraid it wouldn't work on the Wilton stuff. I was delighted!
I'll keep you updated on my progress. Maybe someday I'll be able to create a masterpiece like this...

Yeah, this is a cake of Hogwarts! Word on the street is they served this at one of the Harry Potter movie premiers. If you want to see more awesome cakes, check out Charm City Cakes. They are incredible! Here are a few more of my favorites from their site...

I love both courses one and two. Are you taking it at Kitchen Kneads? Who is your teacher? Who else is in the class? Have fun!

"I will build her a cake, or something." Now you can build me a cake just like Pedro did for Summer.
Vote for Summer!

This is Mike actually, I forgot my password to my login.

Nice! Dedira loved it. And I am 100% obsessed with Ace of Cakes on the Food Network. Too bad we won't have that channel when we move back to UT.

Can't wait to see some of your cakes - you are so creative. Do you remember when I took a cake decorating class? It was a long time ago but I enjoyed it and even made Grandma and Grandpa Brenchley's 50th wedding anniversary cake. Now I think about it, that was before you were born!

Wish I had some money to pay for your flight, I really would. Maybe I will call you and you could give me some tips. I have alway wanted to take a class, maybe some day.

The monkey cake is so cute! What a fun idea. Will you make the boys a pirate ship cake for their birthday?? That shouldn't be too difficult.

You were already good at fancy cakes, weren't you? Didn't you make the soccer ball one for Matt before? Anyway, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pink flower cake - do you think You'll be able to make that one for Katelyn's birthday by Nov. 4th? Thanks! :)
