Last cake class & the stake softball tourny

This past Wednesday was quite the busy day! It was my last cake class and we learned how to do the dreaded rose! All of my roses looked more like...um...carnations? Sorry no pictures, I think I still need some practice. We also learned how to do the sweet pea and a bow, which were super easy. That made me feel good after struggling with the rose. Well here is my final cake masterpiece...ha ha okay it really wasn't that hard, it did take a little bit of time though. It's a cute lil peppermint candy...

P.S. A word of caution, if you want to make red frosting, be prepared to use about half the bottle of coloring. :)

I'm sad Course 1 is over, but good news! Course 2 starts next week! When I signed up it was buy one class get one free! I get 4 more weeks of cake decorating fun/craziness.

So after class was over, Callie and I rushed over to the softball field for our stake softball tournament. The team we played was pretty good, luckily we came back in the last inning and won by 1 run! It was an incredible comeback. And they were cheating so I'm really happy we won. Yeah, cheating in stake softball...super lame!

The next night was the semi-finals and the championship. We ended up winning the semi and lost by 1 in the championship! So sad. But we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our ward has a pretty good team. Hopefully they have stake softball again next summer and we can redeem ourselves. Man am I going to miss the warm summer nights and free dinner every Wednesday night...

Okay, so here is the update on my cake decorating progress...It's actually tougher than it looks!

WEEK 1:
Don't mind the crappy frosting job I did as the base frosting. I thought if I gave myself an hour before the class I would have plenty of time to make the frosting and mix all the different colors and consistencies. Yeah, I was most definitely wrong! I was freakin out when Callie came to pick me up at 6:20pm(class starts at 6:30pm) and I didn't have my cake frosted and half of the colors weren't mixed either. Thanks to Callie's help, we were only 5 minutes late. I was totally flustered the whole class though. I'm a nerd. Here is the cake...

The pattern we were supposed to use was a gay rainbow and my colors weren't exactly those of the rainbow so I decided to turn my rainbow upside-down and make it into a Chinese smiley face, in honor of the Beijing Olympic Games. The main thing they taught us this week was the little stars. That's the technique I used to fill in the rainbow. I think I pretty much got that one down.

WEEK 2:
This week we decorated cupcakes! I love cupcakes, they are so much more fun because a) you don't have to frost the sides, b) lots of little cakes = you can try more decorating techniques, and c) if you mess up, you've got another fresh little cake to start over with. I mixed up some crazy fun colors to decorate these babies. We learned how to do the shell border, flowers, and the base and first petal of the rose. Those are scary! We will learn how to do the rest of the rose next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Week 3 is next week and that is the final class for Course 1. We'll be making a cake to show all the techniques we've learned and "mastered"(yeah, probably not). I'm trying to think of a good idea, any good ideas?? Anyone? Bueller?

"I hate it, but I love it..."

Tony Horton is one crazy kook, but man does he know his stuff! If you want to get your butt kicked(I mean that in a good way), give P90X a try. It's a series of intense workouts, targeting specific areas of your body on certain days of the week. We are on Week 6 and here is our schedule:

1. Chest, Shoulders, & Triceps, Ab Ripper X(this is insane!)


2. Plyometrics (my fav)


3. Back & Biceps, Ab Ripper X


4. Yoga X


5. Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X


6. Kenpo X (this one is fun)


7. Rest or X Stretch

This is Tony, the creator. He's kind of a goober but it makes me laugh. Tony says the "X" is for eXtreme, which is about right. It really is like Tony says at the beginning of one of the workouts, "I hate it, but I love it!" Totally cheesy, but it's true!

Unfortunately, we aren't perfect at doing it everyday because other things come up through the week, but we try to make it there at least 3 or 4 times a week. It's fun because we meet our friends Clay & Jess at the Thunderdome and we all do these crazy workouts together. I definitely feel a difference in my endurance and my arms. Trey is also feeling more toned and it looks like he's lost some weight too. Isn't it great what exercise can do for you? It makes you feel so much better about yourself. It also motivates me to eat more healthy. It's kind of a domino effect. Try it, I dare you!

Yeah...super cute! She actually ended up buying it and everytime I see her with it I can't stop saying to myself, "I LOVE THAT BAG!". And it matches with like everything! It's actually sitting under her desk and I keep looking at it. I know, I'm kinda a bag freak. It's way too expensive for moi so I just like to admire hers. I told her when she gets sick of it she can give it to me. :) Yeah, probably not going to happen.

2 Years Down...

Has it really been 2 years already??? I just kept saying that to myself all day on Friday. Yep, we've been married for 2 years! I still feel like newlyweds. I definitely think year 2 was a lot better than year 1. Now don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the first year but it was just a lot of adjusting and getting used to each others habits and quirks. It just keeps getting better, I love being married to my hubby! I dug up a few wedding pictures in lieu of it being our anniversary...

We had a fun night. Trey took me to our favorite Italian restaurant in Logan, Le Nonne. They have the most fabulous dish that I had seriously been fantasizing about for a week before. It's fettuccine with a Gorgonzola cream sauce with sliced pears...Oh my goodness! Amazering! My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. I highly recommend it. After, we went and did a little shopping at Ross & Kohls, 2 of our favs. Then we went to a cute little pastry shop for dessert. We were in a Harry Potter mood when we got home so we watched #4. It was a fun relaxing night, nice and low key. We did all our favorite things: eat good food, shop, and watch Harry Potter! Haha, we're nerds. Love you honey! I'm excited to see what year 3 will bring.

Cake Decorating 101

I'm finally doing it! I've been wanting to take a cake decorating class for so long now, but I actually took the next step and signed up! And the classes are buy 1 get 1 free so I get to take Course 2 for free! Boo yah! We had our first class on Wednesday. I was totally surprised when I showed up and saw 2 girls from my ward! That will be fun.

I'm really excited to start decorating next week. This week we just learned the basics like what kind of cake recipe to use, how to mix the frosting to make different consistencies, torting, making the top of the cake perfectly flat, and frosting the cake so there are no lines! I always wondered how people did that.

I was so excited last night when I discovered that Joann's has a bunch of Wilton cake stuff! I found this handy little caddy that has all the little tools and stuff I need for the first 2 courses.

And this is the best part, my 40% off coupon worked! I was afraid it wouldn't work on the Wilton stuff. I was delighted!

I'll keep you updated on my progress. Maybe someday I'll be able to create a masterpiece like this...

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the departure of our dear old friend Buela. She's been good to us. Gosh I make it sound like she's dead, well she's not but we sold her yesterday. We are so happy the guy who bought her was so cool about everything. He didn't try to talk us down on the price at all. I think she found a good home. We love you Buela, thanks for being our first.
